You Can Help!
- Banners and signs
You would now be aware that many signs have been posted around the district expressing our disapproval of the proposed FEA plantation. Thank you to all who continue to help make, distribute and display them. Beware that these signs are being vandalised and thieved, and in some cases trespass has occurred. The Lilydale Police Station has been advised and have promised to conduct random surveillance. If you have a banner or sign on your property, please be vigilant and keep an eye and ear out for any tampering. It seems to be occurring in early evening. If you should lose a sign or banner please notify the police immediately (131444 or phone Lindsay direct on 63952050) as this is a form of intimidation and must be dealt with. Our strategy for dealing with this form of intimidation is to replace every sign or banner immediately, preferably with two more! So please contact Margy - 63954175, or John - 63951167 and we will get more to you.
- Launceston City Council planning department 'mediation'. Friday 9th May at 2 - 4pm
The planning dept. will hear our concerns regarding the development application DA0144/2008. We have been invited to choose 6 people to speak and we are currently assessing who would be the most appropriate to articulate our concerns. However we can have as many onlookers as we wish, and we would ideally like all who have expressed concern to be there. The 'mediation' will be held at the Launceston town hall.
- Protest gathering
Friday 9th, morning of the above meeting with LCC planners, there will be a protest gathering in the city. Please ph 63954175 for details.
- Letters to the Editor
Please keep those letters rolling into the Examiner and Mercury. It's really important we ramp this up now, so if you've sent in a letter and it's not been published, chase them up with a phone call. Send in as many letters as you can, don't just rest on your laurels with one! A good idea is to respond to other comments made in letters.
Examiner:
email is the fastest: editor@examiner.com.au
Letter: The Examiner, PO Box 99, Launceston, 7250
SMS: 0427 UWRITE (ie 0427 897483) keep it short and snappy.
You also call the editor’s secretary (Edwina) (go through the main switch - 6336 7111) to gently push your letter. Be nice.
Mercury:
- Talkback radio
Statewide:
Tim Cox - 'Tas Mornings' on local ABC radio (talkback from 9am - 10am)
ABC Northern Tasmania
'Breakfast' with Shane Foley 5:30am - 7:45am
'Afternoons' with Elaine Harris 2pm - 4pm
'Drive' with Hilary Burden 4pm - 6pm
- Water issues
If anyone is concerned about the plantation being established so close to the Rocky Creek, please lobby Jeff Sims (president of the Lilydale Water Committee) personally. The town water intake is within approx 500m of the property, and could possibly be affected by spray drift should aerial spraying occur at any stage of the plantation's life.
- Lobby your aldermen
Please lobby Annette Waddle in particular, but also other members of the LCC between now and Monday 12th. Best to do this by telephone. Telephone numbers available through Launceston City Council desk, or ph Katherine or Margy for details.
- Lobby the Progress Association
Speak with anyone on our Lilydale Progress Association regarding this issue. They have mostly been conspicuously absent from any meetings we have held. Individual phone calls to Jayne Saddington would be a good way to let her know the extent of concern in the local community. Her contact details can be found in the Progressive.
- Rally in Lilydale - 10th May, 11am
This is the final action we have planned. We need as many people as possible to come and be counted! Invite your friends, relatives, anyone who cares about you and your village. Come along, rain hail or shine to express your concern. it's your last chance to have a say and influence your Council to vote. There should be plenty of media there.
